Oak. Warm, valuable, regional
Oak has a special place in German culture, literature and folklore. Here in Ehningen, we prefer to work with European pedunculate and sessile oaks grown in the forests of Baden-Württemberg. This not only guarantees consistently high quality, but also reduces transport distances. Oak is known for its hardness, strength and weight. It is a stronger-than-average material that hardly warps at all, as temperature variations and humidity have little effect on it. American oak (or white oak) is particularly suitable for outdoor use, as it is not susceptible to fungal attack. Oak is therefore relatively easy to maintain.
The naturally grey-brown to light brown oak wood darkens over time, with the type of oak and the treatment of the wood already resulting in very different basic colours. The but basically warm shade of oak harmonizes very well with very light and very dark woods, to which it forms a pleasant, but not too strong contrast.
For the processing of oak wood, it is also important whether it is in the mild or hard variety. While the hard oak can be recognized by its wide annual rings and is relatively difficult to work with due to its particular density, the mild oak is characterized by narrow annual rings, as it has grown slowly.. This makes processing much easier.
Character wood with a wide range of possibilities
The range of applications of oak wood is very extensive because its properties score in so many points. The flooring industry appreciates the easy-care oak not only for its hardness, but also for its possibilities of making the wood individual and exciting through further processing, for example by brushing or smoking. Stair builders know how to use oak wood in a variety of ways due to its different colour nuances and like to use the wonderful opportunity to emphasise the grain by lime and thus give a staircase a special character. Furniture construction also relies on hardness, ease of care and the richness of colour variants and grains. In the music industry convinces oak woods in the construction of simple percussion instruments to harmonica and guitar to piano. Of course, oak wood is essential in the construction of wine barrels for centuries and are considered the barrel wood par excellence here.
High-quality oak wood, cut to size
Our raw material for oak wood is one of the most popular woods of all, which is always reflected in the price. Barrel manufacturers in Germany and France particularly appreciate our logs qualities. The gentle air drying of at least twelve to a maximum of 48 months, which we allow our oak wood depending on its thickness, prevents cracking and thus makes it valuable in the long term. Due to the uniform wood moisture achieved in this way, it can then be processed optimally and reliably. You can get oak from us sorted in quality levels A-A/B, B and B/C as well as boules in quality A/B. We also offer small-knotted boards and worm oak and all oak quilities in thicknesses from 20 mm to 100 mm.
Cabinet quality is available on request. We look forward to your inquiry.
