Hornbeam. The tool and instrument wood

With  hornbeam, we have one of the hardest hardwoods in Europe in our range. Hornbeam provides the heaviest wood of our domestic timbers and is harder than beech wood. The wavy grain course makes it challenging to process. Due to its very weak grain, it has an effect in structure and appearance flat and simple and is therefore used for visually undemanding tool handles as well as for flat-looking parquet. But its massiveness makes the wood of the hornbeam particularly attractive for instrument making, where it is mainly used in the manufacture of pianos and grand pianos. Especially the hammers of these musical instruments must be of great hardness, which is why hornbeam wood is predestined for this.
In toolmaking, hornbeam wood is suitable for hammer handles or planes, chisels, coating and angular dimensions, glue and edge clamps due to its hardness in demand. This simple and hard wood is also suitable for chopping blocks and butchers’ benches. We procure the raw materials of hornbeam in other European countries and cut them  according to customer requirements.

Hardwoods for furniture and interiors

Grain and colours, stability and elasticity, durability and structure, all this distinguishes woods from each other and makes them attractive for a wide variety of applications. We have an extensive number of other hardwoods in our range for you.

Maple

Maple is ideal for high-quality work in carpentry, especially inlays and cabinet work can be done exceptionally well with maple wood. But also, for more mundane applications such as parquet, stairs or worktops, maple is a good choice. The processing of maple  during sawing, sanding and polishing is easy, after steaming it also becomes flexible and can be easily shaped .

Alder

The light alder wood often has a gentle rose tinge, which gives it a very special colour note. Every now and then there is also a slight brown grain. Due to its straight grain course and delicate pores, alder wood looks calm and appealing. It is suitable for carving and art work as well as for interior design, where soft and light wood is required.

Red oak

The American red oak is comparable to the European  oaks, but  small differences in structure and aspect  make it special in terms of application. Almost as hard as its European siblings, this wood is more compressive and flexible than domestic oaks and is therefore suitable for steam bending. In addition, red oak is used as parquet as well as for the production of windows, doors and stairs.

Walnut, American and European

The colour-variant and slightly grained walnut wood is a medium-weight precious wood with good strength. High-quality furniture and fine musical instruments are made of walnut. Because it can be bent well when damped, special shapes are also possible. Due to its visual advantages, walnut is also used for panelling, veneer and high-quality carpentry. In addition, it is a good choice as solid wood, for stairs or parquet.

Cherry tree

The colour-variant and slightly grained walnut wood is a medium-weight precious wood with good strength. High-quality furniture and fine musical instruments are made of walnut. Because it can be bent well when damped, special shapes are also possible. Due to its visual advantages, walnut is also used for panelling, veneer and high-quality carpentry. In addition, it is a good choice as solid wood, for stairs or parquet.
Medium-hard and with good strength, cherry wood is of course used above all where art and beauty are in demand: in period furniture, in cabinetmaking and in demanding carpentry work. In addition, it plays a role in the interior design, whether in  massiv boards  or in veneer.
